Virginia Skalinder died at the age of 89 on August 30, 2009 at The Mather Pavilion in Evanston. Mrs. Skalinder was predeceased by her husband, Lewis (Lou) Skalinder. She is survived by her children, Marcia Barber who lives with her husband Alex, in Boulder, CO and Barry Carlson, of Victoria, British Columbia, two grandchildren, Scott Carlson and Kristin Carlson Smith, and four great-grandchildren. She also had two stepsons, Gregg Skalinder and Eric Skalinder. Mrs. Skalinder was born in Evanston Hospital in 1919 and remained a resident of the area for much of her life. She married Torsten Evald Carlson at the outbreak of the Second World War. She is the daughter of Ethel Teufert and Harry Teufert. Her only brother, Harry Teufert Jr., was killed in a workplace accident at an Evanston hotel.
