Michelle Risinger, a Wilmette native and alumna of New Trier Township High School, has recently deployed for her second tour in Iraq with the American Red Cross. Risinger is responsible for relaying emergency communication messages between deployed service members and their families who are in the midst of a personal crisis such as a birth, death, illness, natural disaster or financial matter. Concluding her first deployment in November 2008, Risinger has now returned to Iraq as the assistant station manager at COB Speicher in Tikrit.

Jan Loew of Wilmette was awarded with the "Mollie Goldstein Outstanding Volunteer of the Year" award from CJE SeniorLife for her three years of service. Loew volunteers at Lieberman Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Skokie.

Jeffrey Lale of Wilmette, who just graduated from New Trier High School, received this year's Lynn and Dora Williams Memorial Award. The honor is presented annually through the New Trier Democratic Organization.

Lale plans to attend the University of Illinois and pursue studies in computer engineering.

New Trier Township's six recently elected and re-elected officials were sworn in May 18 in a ceremony at the Township Office in Winnetka.

Those sworn in include re-elected supervisor Patricia B. Cantor of Glencoe; trustee Alan M. Goldberg of Wilmette; and trustee Stefan Mozer of Wilmette. Two newly elected trustees also took the oath of office: Padraig "Paddie" Brennen of Wilmette; and Gerri Kahnweiler of Winnetka. Clerk Jerome Hoynes of Winnetka, who was elected to replace retiring clerk Sheila K. Mitchell was also sworn in. As per Illinois statute, re-elected assessor JoAnn Shrier Gordon of Glencoe and collector Joe Fell of Winnetka will be sworn into office in January 2010.

James Cohen of Wilmette, a broker with Chicagoland Sunbelt Business Brokers in Chicago, recently received the professional designation of certified business intermediary from the International Business Brokers Association.


Koenig & Strey's Wilmette office has named Sunny Feeley of Wilmette as the sales leader for the month of February. The listing leader for the month was M.J. Black of Wilmette. Previously, the Wilmette office announced that Peter Lipsey of Wilmette was sales leader for January. Linda Wolff, also of Wilmette, was listing leader for the month. In additional news, James Slater of Wilmette has joined the office as a sales associate.

Northwestern University researcher Chad A. Mirkin of Evanston, who conducts research into the application of nanotechnology, has been elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Susan Klawans of Woburn, Mass., formerly of Wilmette, recently was named vice president at Gilbane Building Co., based in Providence, R.I.



Marine Corps Second Lt. Michael K. Murtaugh, a 2005 graduate of Loyola Academy High School in Wilmette, recently graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned to his current rank in the U.S. Marine Corps.
