Notes:
The New Trier Class of 2009 graduation party, "Oh, The Places You'll Go," will take place at 10:45 p.m. Sunday on the Northfield campus at 7 Happ Road.


Learn about New Trier's Long Range Facilities Plan and the suggested "first" construction project during the next Winnetka Campus Tour and Facilities Presentation at 6 p.m. June 17 in Room 359, Winnetka Campus, 385 Winnetka Ave.

In April, the Board of Education endorsed a Long Range Facilities Plan that outlines priorities for facilities projects over the next several decades. As a next step, the board will identify a first construction project and its timing.


The board continues to study the Long Range Facilities Plan and the proposed first project, while assessing Township support and general economic conditions.

The 2009 New Trier Science Olympiad Team has won the State Championship and also earned Ninth Place in the nation after competing at the National Science Olympiad Tournament at Augusta State University in Augusta, Ga., on May 15 to 17.


Earning Second Place medals were: Adam Johnson and Josh Rosen in Technical Problem Solving; Katrina Keleher and Tom Schulz in Out and Back; and Neha Pirwani, Julia Steinberg and Junjie Shangguan in Protein Modeling.

Earning Third Place medals were: Andrew Miller and Ira Slomski-Pritz in Astronomy; Ira Slomski-Pritz and George Stotis in Ecology; and Dennis Lazar and Danny Salzman in Junkyard Challenge.

Earning Fourth Place medals were: Eric Calamari and Josh Rosen in Environmental Chemistry.

Team members who competed were: Erisa Apantaku, Anthony Alvarez-Gerritsen, Eric Calamari, Adam Johnson, Max Kanter, Jeff Lale, Dennis Lazar, Ian McGruder, Andrew Miller, Josh Rosen, Danny Salzman, Ira Slomski-Pritz, George Stotis, Henry Thomas and Ben Vishny. Competing in three trial events were alternates Katrina Keleher, Neha Pirwani, Tom Schulz, Julia Steinberg and Junjie Shangguan.

Two freshmen, Jeff SubbaRao and Jeremy Zhang, also attended the competition.

New Trier's Science Olympiad coaches are: Jan Leonhardt, Tony Harper, Nick Drozdoff, Dr. Jabon, Matt Schwartz and Andrew Reiter.

Paul Waechtler, New Trier science department coordinator, has been named assistant principal at the Northfield Campus, effective July 1, replacing Tim Hayes who was named assistant superintendent for student services.



Seven New Trier alumni -- all former performing arts students -- will sign copies of their new book titled "Seven Friends -- Sixty Years Later," at 2 p.m. June 6 at the Book Stall in Winnetka, and at 4 p.m. at the Book Bin in Northbrook.


The New Trier Class of 2009 will graduate on Sunday. Commencement will be held at 5 p.m. in the Welsh-Ryan Arena at Northwestern University.

New Trier students may participate in Book BuyBack on the specified dates
