The annual Brian Avery Memorial 3-on-3 basketball tournament is set for March 15 at Loyola Academy. The event, sponsored by St. Francis Xavier School and parish, will benefit Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus (The Sacred Heart of Jesus High School) in Cartago, Costa Rica. All fifth- through eighth-grade boys and girls are eligible to participate. For more information, contact Janet Avery.

• St. Francis Xavier will be holding two separate first Eucharist meetings for second-grade parents of children planning to receive their first Eucharist this year.

• Sister Casey reminds all St. Francis Xavier confirmation candidates and their families that candidate interviews and the sacrament of reconciliation will be held on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Contact Sister Casey with questions.

• The basketball teams play tonight (Feb. 5) at Holy Cross in Deerfield. Times are 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. for sixth-grade boys; 6:30 p.m. for seventh- grade boys and 7:30 p.m. for eighth- grade boys. This weekend (Feb. 6-8) in tournament play, the sixth- grade girls will visit St. Pete's; the eighth- grade girls will visit St. Catherine's and the seventh- grade boys will visit Our Lady of Perpetual Help

The teams also will be playing Monday at St. Margaret Mary as follows: sixth- grade boys at 4:30 p.m., sixth- grade girls at 5:30 p.m., eighth- grade boys at 6:30 p.m., and eighth- grade girls at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, the school hosts St. Joe's as follows: sixth- grade boys at 5 p.m., seventh- grade boys at 6 p.m. and eighth- grade boys at 7 p.m.

• The scrip tuition rebate and fund-raising program has gotten easier to use.

• Registration is under way for new summer camp programs for children ages 3 to 6.

• Families should have received their 2009-10 school year registration forms in the mail.

• The school would like to thank Crusaders Tonight directors Jackie Langas, Kathy Conway, Renee Serritella and Katie Bredemann for working on this year's talent show. Special thanks also went out to Janet Avery and Mary Felish for publicity assistance, to Mike Fuller and Marty Watts for audio work.

• The annual daddy/daughter dance will start at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the school gym.

• Some upcoming events: Eighth-grade picture day is Wednesday. Terra Nova testing will take place the weeks of March 2 and 9. Confirmation will take place March 7.
