Chester Hutton, a retired Wilmette police sergeant who nearly perished while saving a woman from an exploding house 30 years ago, died Feb. 7 of cancer. He was 60. Mr. Hutton was the first on the scene of a 1978 house fire at 1221 Cleveland Ave., which had been used by homeowner George Murray Yule as an illegal fireworks warehouse. Eleven people were injured, including Yule, who died two weeks later. Mr. Hutton retired in 2000 after 23 years in Wilmette. Survivors include his wife, Concetta; his mother, Winona; his son, Christopher (Debra); his daughter, Sandra (Jack) Murray; his brother, Larry (Denise); his sister, Anita; and two grandchildren.
