Club members are each in the process of constructing three pieces, which will be presented in March at the club's first fashion show. Guidance counselor Susan Close of Mount Prospect moderates the club.

Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley was guest of honor at the festivities. Katie was introduced by the hospital's chief executive officer and president, Patrick M. Magoon, who called the board "a small but mighty group of adolescents." Katie gave her speech and then presented the mayor with a gift made by children at the hospital.
