Full Text

Orville J. Moyer, 60 years old, head of the rug department of Carson, Pirie, Scott and company, was drowned on September 21 at Bluffton, Ohio, where he had gone on a vacation to attend his family reunion. A group of college students on a botany tour found his body in a swimming pool which had been closed for the season. Bruises on his head and face indicated he had struck a rock while diving. Mr. Moyer was a widower and with his only child, Virginia, 19, had resided for nine years with Mrs. E. L. Pringle, 1144 Lake avenue. He had been head of the carpet department of Mandel brothers for thirty years, leaving there to take his present position about four years ago. Mr. Moyer was a 32nd degree Mason. The funeral services were conducted under Masonic auspices, with the assistance of the Rev. Hubert Carleton, rector of St. Augustine's Episcopal church, which Mr. Moyer attended. Burial took place at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Chicago.
