Edward Sincere, 81, a partner in the firm of Stein and Solomon of Chicago and residing with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Solomon of 1025 Ashland avenue, was almost instantly killed when struck by a northbound train on the Chicago and North Western railroad at the Wilmette station at 5:43 o'clock on Monday evening of this week.
Mr. Sincere had alighted from the northbound train which arrives at the Wilmette station at 5:39. He had crossed the tracks to ascertain whether his daughter, who usually met him with an automobile but who was in Chicago at the time, was at the station. Finding that she was not at the station, Mr. Sincere turned and started to recross the tracks in order to take a taxi, as was his custom whenever his daughter was unable to meet him.
At that time another northbound train, due in Wilmette at 5:43, was approaching the station. The engineer, seeing Mr. Sincere starting across the tracks, applied the emergency brakes and sounded his whistle. Several bystanders also shouted warnings but Mr. Sincere was either confused or else failed to hear the signals. He was struck a glancing blow by the locomotive and was hurtled against the platform on the west side of the tracks, falling between the platform and the tracks.
He was immediately picked up by fellow passengers and a Wilmette police detail, led by Capt. Henry Brautigam, the latter rushing him to the Evanston hospital where he was found to be dead.
An inquest, scheduled to be held at the Scott Funeral home, 1109 Central avenue, was continued to May 3.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 25, from the chapel at 963 E. Forth-seventh street, Chicago. Burial was at Rosehill cemetery.
Mr. Sincere had been married for 53 years and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Clara Sincere, aged 82 years, Mrs. Solomon, and a son, Edward, Jr.
